Diagnosis Murder centered around Dr. Mark Sloan, a renowned physician and the the chief of staff at Community General Hospital, who occasionally worked for the local police department as a consultant. His son Steve Sloan is a detective for the department. Even though his duties as a doctor keep him busy enough, he still finds time to help the police solve murders. Together they solve some of Los Angeles' toughest murders. Dr. Sloan, much like Jessica Fletcher of Murder, She Wrote, has a magnetic quality that apparently draws murders to him.
